How Many Vegan Actors are on Game of Thrones?

There’s something in the water (or wine) in the Seven Kingdoms, because nearly everyone on Game of Thrones seems to be vegan or using their powerful voices to speak up for animals. As “that show that you could not avoid hearing about even if you tried” ends, we’re honoring our favorite cast members who advocate for animals.

Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)

It comes as no surprise to us that Tyrion is portrayed with humor and heart by actor Peter Dinklage, whose kindness is also evident in his off-screen life. A dedicated vegetarian, he has lent his voice to several PETA campaigns, including our “Face Your Food” video, which reveals the ugly truth behind the meat, egg, and dairy industries. He also warned fans about the deadly “direwolf trend,” reminding potential guardians that dogs are a lifetime commitment.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)

We would never want to be on Arya Stark’s list, but we’d love to hang with the woman behind this badass character. Let’s break down just how great Maisie Williams is when it comes to animals, shall we?

  1. She’s vegan.
  2. She knows dolphins belong in the ocean, not in captivity.
  3. She’s spoken out against animal testing.
  4. She promotes #AdoptDontShop.
    The end.

Jerome Flynn (Bronn)

His character may be known for snarky one-liners and his love of gold, but in real life, actor Jerome Flynn is as sincere as they come when standing up for animal rights. A longtime vegan, he’s starred in not one but two PETA campaigns: a video campaign encouraging viewers to “Reject Cruelty, Go Vegan” and, like on-screen colleague Peter Dinklage, he urged fans not to buy their own version of the near-mystical direwolf.

Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)

Long before she played one of the most powerful (and probably most hated) people in Westeros, actor Lena Headey joined PETA to speak up for animals forced to perform in the circus. In the video, she reveals the horrors that animals endure under the big top: “Circus trainers often force elephants, bears, tigers, and other animals to perform tricks by beating and whipping them, shocking them with electric prods, and jabbing holes in their skin with sharp metal hooks.”

Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei)

Vegan for nearly seven years, Nathalie Emmanuel often shares her favorite vegan snacks and healthy lifestyle tips on her popular social media accounts. A true friend to all animals, she’s tweeted about saving a fly and tried to help a potentially injured bee in her garden. And like her compassionate costar Maisie Williams, she also supported a campaign to stop animal testing.

Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont)

When she’s not busy playing one of the youngest—and fiercest—ladies of the north, 16-year-old Bella Ramsey is a proud vegan and says so in her Twitter bio. From encouraging her 620k Instagram followers to #ChooseCompassion while sporting her favorite PETA gear to promoting vegan footwear, she never shies away from speaking up for animals.

John Bradley (Samwell Tarly)

Like his beloved character, John Bradley is curious and loves to learn. While attending a performance by dedicated PETA supporter and animal rights activist Morrissey in London, Bradley stopped by our booth and picked up a vegan starter kit! We’re hopeful that the actor is as clever in real life as in the role he plays on the show and will decide to go vegan in the future.
